About Stretch Therapy

What is Stretch Therapy?

_

Stretch Therapy is movement based assisted stretching, mostly done on a massage table, and some work done on the floor. This is a gentle approach to improving range of motion where we listen to your body and guide it towards where it needs to go. You will be guided to fully let go and relax while the therapist will move your body in and out of 3-dimensional, flowing stretches. We ALWAYS listen to the body and never push into pain, as stubborn patterns need to be coaxed gently in order to make lasting change. Stretch Therapy targets the full fascial nets within the body and the joint capsules, using gentle traction and oscillation to remove restrictions from parts of your body you can't get into on your own. Stretch Therapy is VERY different than self stretching. You will leave feeling open, lengthened and relaxed. Come in and experience it for yourself!

Who is Stretch Therapy for?

_

If you are a human with a body - Stretch Therapy is for you! Athletes and highly active people use Stretch Therapy for tissue recovery and to ease soreness after intense training sessions, and to fine tune their movement and mobility so they can perform at their very best. Less active people or older folks use Stretch Therapy to keep stiffness at bay, and to encourage a more active lifestyle through gentle, pain free stretching. People recovering from injuries or surgeries use Stretch Therapy to accelerate healing and to bring their range of motion back to healthy levels. Some people come for sessions weekly while others may come occasionally for a "tune up". The reality is, most of us simply do not move enough in a day to keep our tissues healthy,  (Thanks computers and chairs!) so in order to live inside a functional and pain-free body we need to keep the body moving and Stretch Therapy is a very efficient and effective way to do that.

What is Fascia?
_

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and interweaves muscles, bones, joints and all vital organs in the body. Fascia contributes to the structure and movement of the entire human body. Postural habits, lifestyle choices, repetitive movements from specific sports and aging can alter your fascia - resulting in sticky movement, aches and pains, stiffness, injuries and more. Fascia is one interconnected system, and when it loses its suppleness, pain can transfer from one region to another.

What does a session look like?

_

Stretch Therapy is performed on a massage table and uses stabilization straps to secure the part of the body that is not being worked on. Clients typically wear comfortable, athletic type clothing.  Sessions are customizable to each client depending on their needs and goals. Therapist and client work together during each session, moving in and out of stretches while focusing on breath and sensory awareness. Each session will begin with a movement assessment to help customize and target the work.  After the table based stretching work your therapist may guide you through some off the table movements and exercises to help lock in the benefits and give you exercises to work on at home.
